Diversity & Inclusion

The Cedar Valley Diversity and Inclusion initiative is designed to strengthen the Cedar Valley through promoting diversity, full inclusion, and cultural competencies in business, and to focus on the importance, impact and benefits to business of effective diversity and inclusion practices. The committee consists of members from The Cedar Valley business community who are dedicated to uncovering and realizing opportunities that promote the business case and the impact of diversity and inclusion in the Cedar Valley. The committee implements a variety of initiatives designed to promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace, such as diversity-focused publications, special events and educational seminars.

Individuals interested in serving on the Cedar Valley Inclusion and Diversity committee must be employed by a member of The Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber. In addition, we ask that interested people:

• Have an interest in diversity/inclusion efforts
• Be capable of influencing their company’s policies and/or business efforts
• Understand business needs relevant to recruitment and retention
• Be committed to regular attendance at monthly meetings and committee events
• Committee meetings are usually held the third Thursday of each month at noon

Cedar Valley Diversity & Inclusion Partnership Award

As part of the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber Annual Celebration, recognition will be given for outstanding contribution by a business or organization for leadership in creating and strengthening an environment of diversity and inclusion in the workplace culture, business practices and in the community.

Next awards to be presented at the 2013 Annual Celebration, March 7, 2013 at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center, Waterloo.

Events

Cedar Valley Diversity & Inclusion Partnership Summit

This initiative is designed to strengthen the Cedar Valley economic region by promoting diversity, full inclusion, and cultural competencies in business. The partnership includes a program of events and a publication. The Diversity and Inclusion Summit event provides attendees with a concentrated and focused experience with multiple activities to include a keynote speaker, awards luncheon, authoritative workshop panel discussions and a stimulating multi-cultural mixer. The long-term impact of this summit will help make embracing diversity a hallmark of the Cedar Valley. The event takes place in the fall.
